The Functionality of Dot Pin Marking Machine

Dot Pin Marking Machine also known as Dot Peen Marking Machine or Scribe Marking Machine performs long-lasting high-quality marking on a wide range of metal surfaces. This method involves a Dot Peen stylus marker that moves rapidly to mark a series of dots on the surface. The stylus moves in x and y directions on the surface, as programmed. It creates a series of dots to mark digits, unique data matrix codes and logos. The data matrix codes contain a lots of data.

Dot Pin Marking Machines work on many kinds of settings involving character styles, their sizes, and depths of an impression. Dot Pin Marking is the most common marking technology which is ideal for marking unique data codes for machine readability and identification. Dot marking ensures minimum possible stress on the material surface that’s getting marked. Dot Pin Marking Machines are ideal for all kinds of metal surfaces and even coated surfaces.

Factors Responsible for Quality Dot Pin Marking

Use of Fixtures

For a perfect marking process, it is important that the work piece is held firmly or else good quality marking cannot be possible. That’s where fixtures are used. A variety of fixtures are used by Dot Pin Marking Machines, for marking various kinds of surfaces. These fixtures are interchangeable and should be quickly changed using an efficient system for error-free marking.

Surface Texture

The texture of a material surface plays a very crucial role in setting the quality of mark. Smooth surfaced materials get better quality marks quiet easily while rough, rugged surfaces may get faulty or blurred marks. In fact, to make the mark readable or understandable by the machine correctly, it has to be dug far deeper on the unfinished or rough surface than on a smooth surface.

Type of Work Piece Surface

Quality of the mark scribed by a Dot Pin Marking Machine also depends upon the material surface. The flatter and uniform the surface, the better will be the mark quality. It depends upon the distance between the stylus or Dot Peen tip and the surface. If the distance is less, the mark won’t be deeper. There has to be a specific distance between the stylus marker and the surface to get the deeper mark.

A Dot Pin Marking Machine on cylindrical surfaces requires several considerations like specified distance between the stylus and surface, character size, splitting the text for compensatory marking on variable gaps.

Angle of the Stylus Tip

The quality of mark also depends upon the angle at which the stylus presses the surface. Usually, the stylus angle is set to 90° but it may be changed as per requirement. The angle is changed, also to maintain the stylus life. The stylus life gets reduced with deeper marks. So it has to be set to maintain a balance between depth of the mark or mark quality and stylus life.
